Can Workouts Only help you lose weight?

Can Workouts Only help you lose weight?

You workout almost everyday, you make sure you sweat, and you make sure you are pushing yourself as hard as possible. You look in the mirror and you step on the scale and nothing is changing. You start asking yourself, why am I not losing weight? Why do I still look the same why I look in the mirror? You then sit down to have breakfast which consist of 6 strips bacon, 3 eggs, 2 waffles with some syrup and pureed fruit on top, and a 16oz glass of orange juice. Then you zoom off to work sit at your desk for 8 hours, then you you realize the time and your stomach is screaming at you to get some more food. Then ding! Another email comes in to your in box (blocking out your hunger signals) you say, “this is urgent.” You put in another 2 hours cleaning up this work issue. Ok! Now I’m done, and back come those signals of hunger. You run to the kitchen to rush make something you whip up something you pull out some leftover burgers, a couple slices of cheese all on a hamburger bun, then you fry up some french fries with some ketchup on the side, and a strong mix drink because today was a stressor but then again not much different then yesterday. Then as you are ending the night with a little movie, you remember the ice cream in the freezer. You get up grunting and groaning that you have to workout and do that day all over again.

Changing the Narrative

Now, the scenario above is a made up story but I know there plenty of situations like this out there. We believe we can out work bad habits and still see results. Unfortunately, you need the nutrition and the workouts together so that you can see the results from your workouts. Furthermore, you need to create better habits in every aspect of your life to really allow yourself to feel like you are healthy and well in a balanced way. When you jump from one work situation to another, ignoring what your body needs to keep healthy and well, this is also creating more potentials for personal neglect. This does not mean you have to completely do a 360 degree turn and change everything all at once. In fact, I only recommend changing one thing at a time, until you are reaching a consistent level of change with that behavior.( I did a blog about this the other day so if you haven’t checked it out. You may want to head over to our blogs and check it out.)

Add more good habits and naturally lose the bad habits

When I look at this scenario, it is clear that the person in this story needs to make some changes to their nutrition. You see large portions of food all at once, you see no vegetables or fruits, and you would add in some more water. However, it starts there by committing to adding good things into our diet not trying to take the bad things away for now. The reason I say this is because removing things can generally lead to more cravings. The more good things you can add into the today the less room you will have left for the bad thing over time. These bad nutritional habits will start to fad away, especially as you start to see the progress and results you have been looking for in your journey. If you think back on that story, I would also consider how that person may have felt during that day if they would just take a break for lunch. This small change would probably bring up their focus and productive. This coaching conversation might make them think about adding in a lunch to their day so they can get in another meal and recharge.

Let’s end with motivation!

Here is the take away, you have control of your thoughts and your actions. You can choose to accept the bad habits or you can choose to make new good habits. These are your choices; however, if you are not happy then you can choose to change them to create a happy and more positive future for yourself. I know that some behaviors are not always easy to change but they are worth it and your are worth it. Your future is worth it and your health is worth it.
